Verena Stefanie x Lawson for Black Scale

July 26th, 2012

Verena Stefanie photographed Lawson in London a few weeks back and I was so stoked to see a few Black Scale pieces used in the shoot. Thanks to both Verena and Lawson for killing it and thinking of us at Black Scale for this photo shoot. For a quick insight on the photo shoot here are words from Verena Staphanie:

“The first time I met Lawson was while he was having a work experience at the renowned streetwear brand Y’OH in London.
I always look for some interesting and peculiar subjects for my pictures and Lawson, or Lowlifer, is definitely one of them. Not only because his body is covered by tattoos, which is a ritual and a philosophy that I love and admire, but more so because this guy actually has something to say, not just via his mouth but also through his eyes. His way of living life and his attitude comes across naturally through the lens and translates into some of the best shots without putting too much effort in or without having to direct him too much. We understand each other without many words. He is just himself. His passion for hip hop music is something that totally drew me into taking pictures of him, because it is a genre that I love and because it is a culture that I embrace. And this guy loves and breathes that culture and respects it so much… He has the late, great, legendary BIGGIE tattooed on his left arm (R.I.P.). He knew about my photographic documentary about the Grime scene and he admired that in return I guess. All these little details that got us into the perfect symbiosis during our shoots. If I could work with him on 70% of my shoots, I would be a glad and honoured photographer. The guy is doing great.”
